THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has indicated its not ready to question the former First Lady, Ms Esther Nyawa Tembo over the 15 flats located in State Lodge that were possessed.
The former first lady was expected to be questioned by DEC officers today around 11:00 but the commission backtracked and pushed it to a later date.
DEC alleged they did not know who Ms Esther Nyawa Tembo was and that she had constructed the flats on undesignated land that had no coordinates and thus no title but these assertions were proved false, as lawyers produced title deeds issued in 2015.
And speaking in parliament, Patriotic Front (PF) Shiwan’gandu member of Parliament Stephen Kampyongo accused DEC of trying to embarrass the former first lady and the former first family by rushing to the media without doing due diligence.
“It’s obvious DEC wanted to tarnish the image of the first family by putting on a media stint to embarrass her,” Mr Kampyongo said.
Ms Lungu’s lawyer, Mr Makebi Zulu, in an interview said the DEC had indicated that they were not ready and asked for another date to question her.
Mr Zulu however said they suspected that the reason DEC moved the dates was because they were scared of the Africa Union summit which Zambia is hosting from July 17.
“DEC is not ready so they have postponed the callout to a later date which they will advise. We want to believe that the reason they have done so is because of the upcoming conference which would be hosted by Zambia,” he said.
He indicated that DEC did not conduct an elementary search.
