DNA results have indicated that former Republican president Edgar Lungu’s close associate Suzyo Nyika was indeed the person that was buried in Lumezi.
According to a close relative the results proved that the remains belonged to Mr Nyika who was believed to have faked his death and fled to a neigbouring country for fear of being persecuted as he was a close associate of the former head of state.
Mr Nyika died in Lundazi where his remains were buried but police suspected that he was still alive and his death and just used it as a diversion as he was suspected to be living in South Africa.
Others believed that dollars may have been buried in the grave purportedly to be his.
However the relative who did not want to be named indicated that the DNA results indicated a match and unlike the picture that was being painted by the law enforcement agencies.
“The DNA results proved that indeed the corpse belonged to our relative and not the frenzy that was created that he had fled to another country,” he said.
She said the family were dismayed by the action by the police who even went to an extent of exhuming Mr Nyika’s body even when they were assured that he had died.
But when contacted Police Spokesperson Rae Haamonga said that he was not in the office and could only give an official response today.
“Right now I’m not in the office and I can only divulge that information once I’m given an update by the officers working on that matter,” Mr Haamonga said.
