Dear Editor,
A MONTH ago, Government shut down Indeni Oil Refinery and placed operations on care and maintenance. No Plan B was put in place before the shutdown and care and maintenance action.
Now that Indeni is dysfunctional, the inevitable has happened. Oil Marketing Companies now have a field day to arm-twist Government at will. They have demanded for tax waivers or no fuel imports into the country.
Tax incentives are basically subsidies. Government claimed it was doing away with fuel subsidies, only to find itself entrapped into even more and more fuel subsidies.
Typically, we are now running in circles.
PETER SINKAMBA.
