MANDEVU KILLINGS: PF DEMANDS INQUEST
PF DEMANDS INQUEST TO CURB EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLINGS
By NATION REPORTER
AN inquest in the shooting to death of the two young men in Mandevu should be opened so that justice can prevail because innocent lives have been lost, former Member of Parliament Jean Kapata has said.
Ms Kapata said that the police did not act professionally hence the need to open an inquest so that the truth could be established in what really transpired.
An emotional Ms Kapata said that it was not fair that their party member was killed like a criminal when in fact he was not even involved in any criminality.
She said one of the people gunned down was not a criminal and that he was just found in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“I worked with one of the people shot dead and I can attest that he was not a criminal and that it was just that he was caught up in the mess,” she said.
Ms Kapata said that the party was perturbed by the shooting and that she was praying that justice would prevail.
She said the police did not have to open fire and that despite one of the individuals being a suspect they would have apprehended them so that they could formally arrest them if at all they were law breakers.
Ms Kapata said lives were lost for no reason and that an inquest was the only way to bring the people behind the atrocities to book.
“The relevant authorities should do the right thing in this matter because the manner in which the two were killed is inhumane,” she said.
Ms Kapata said that even the vehicle that was being used in the operation was not even involved in any criminal activities making the shooting by the police unjustifiable.
Meanwhile, Police have maintained that the two youths who were shot dead in Mandebvu compound were suspected criminals contrary to assertions by MandevuMember of Parliament Christopher Shakafuswa that the two were innocent youths.
Police spokesperson Rae Haamonga has explained that the Police received information that there were four suspected criminals driving a Nissan Tilda registration number AIC 6983 silver in colour and the police officers that were in the field carrying out patrols were quickly informed and rushed to the scene.
