THE trend of persecuting former Head of States should come to an end because this kind of politics is long gone, former Finance Minister Katele Kalumba has said.
Dr Kalumba said the “system” must set a precedence of respecting a former Republican Presidents and not to go after them once they leave office.
In an interview yesterday, Dr Kalumba said he was saddened that some people were calling for the removal of former President Edgar Lungu to have him persecuted when there is no tangible evidence that he committed a crime to warrant such an action.
The former minister said politics of hatred must end in Zambia.
“There is nothing wrong which President Lungu did for people to go after him. Let them leave him alone.
“I know some people will call me names, they will call me a witch because of speaking for Lungu. Call me whatever you want, I am not worried,” he said.
Meanwhile Dr Kalumba has thanked the new dawn Government for safeguarding his life.
He said the time Government knew about him being sick and they immediately instructed for his evacuation to Maina Soko Hospital.
“I was hospitalized for three weeks and I am now fine and I am back to Chiengi. I really thank President Hichilema for helping me and I am now getting better,” he said.
Dr Kakumba has also urged Zambians to be patient during this period when the country was facing economic challenges.
He said such occurrences were normal in every country but soon things will turn around.
