THE selective persecution and public humiliation targeted at opposition Patriotic Front leaders has the potential of inciting instability PF aspiring president Chishimba Kambwili has said.
It was shocking, he said that investigative wings had continued to persecute former ministers in the previous PF regime.
According to reports the searches are made in the full glare of cameras to create and capture maximum attention.
He said the recent raid on Kabushi lawmaker, Bowman Lusambo’s home by the investigative wings was a clear indication there was an agenda of silencing political opponents.
Mr Kambwili said what was shocking was that they were not disclosing what they were looking for and what they had found.
“These missions have been marred with secrecy because the nation does not even know what exactly they were looking for during these raids,” he said.
He said the government needed to stop using state agencies to persecute political opponents but to let them work independently.
Mr Kambwili challenged the investigative wings to disclose what they were looking for at Mr Lusambo’s residence and the other homes belonging to former ministers.
“Zambians will start thinking these raids are political because they are not giving us the facts and details on what they are doing and looking for,” he said.
Mr Kambwili said it was disheartening that the country was moving on that trajectory when it was supposed focus on healing, promoting peace and not vindictiveness.
