KITWE giants Nkana FC coach Beston Chambeshi is happy that Nkana finished the first round of the MTN/FAZ Super League on third position to qualify for Zambia’s only cup competition the lucrative ABSA Cup.
Nkana finished the first round with 26 points, four points behind the league leaders Green Buffaloes and two points behind second-placed Green Eagles who are on 28 points.
In an interview, Chambeshi said a top-three finish in the first round of the Super League gives Nkana the motivation needed to start the second round on a positive note.
Chambeshi said the Super League has been very competitive and exposed Nkana’s defence which will have to be improved ahead of the second round which promises a lot of exciting moments.
“We were not well organised in defence. The goals we conceded where from the centre of the defence which is not good so we need to improve on that in the games ahead, we need to have a tight marking defence,” Chambeshi said.
Nkana beat rivals Power Dynamos, Buildcon, Forest Rangers, Kafue Celtics, Kabwe Warriors and Red Arrows in their quest to secure a top three first round finish.
Despite having one of the most lethal striking department with 20 goals to its name, Nkana’s defence is also among the weakest having conceded 16 goals.
Chambeshi hinted that Nkana would strengthen with new signings to be able to compete in the second round of the Super League.
“Every player wants to play for Nkana so we will try to see which players we can bring in. It has been a very competitive league and everyone must now pull up their socks, all the teams must pull up their socks to compete in this league,” Chambeshi said.
