THERE is need for departmental transfers in the Zambia Police Service especially from the traffic section if corruption is to be curbed, says Commuter Association of Zambia, president Aaron Kamuti.Mr Kamuti said if Government wants to ensure sanity in the police service and prevent police officers from being involved in corrupt practices, it should embark on departmental transfers. In an interview, Mr Kamuti said it is sad that some alleged corrupt police officers have dented the image of the entire police service and also tarnished other people’s names.Mr Kamuti has called on Home Affairs minister Jack Mwiimbu to ensure that officers rotate departments to avoid corrupt vices in the service.Meanwhile, Mr Kamuti has called on Mr Mwiimbu to revert police officers to be conducting day patrols as well as check points and roadblocks during this festive season especially in high density areas.Mr Kamuti observed that lawlessness needs to be tackled with seriousness before people’s lives are lost as criminality is rampant now.He said criminals have taken advantage of the situation especially now that police officers have stopped conducting night patrols in some areas.
