Rainbow party in Luapula Province is disappointed with the new dawn government’s failure to pay farmers, stating that this has negatively affected their livelihood.
Party Luapula Province Youth Chairperson Innocent Chileshe has since demanded that government must raise funds so that payments can be done in order to help poor farmers who are struggling to earn a living.
He also said failure to pay farmers will affect production of maize and other crops which will cause hunger in the region and the country at large.
“The government is killing farmers especially in Luapula and other regions which recently produced bumper harvests in the last farming seasons.
It is disappointing to have a government which is not listening to the concerns of the people,” he said.
Mr Chileshe said, “How do you have a government that keeps on blaming the previous government on every failure it creates.”
As a party, he said, we call upon the New dawn government to quickly pay all the farmers in Luapula Province and other parts of the country for us to see meaningful production in 2021/2022 farming season .
He also appealed to the farmers to continue mounting pressure on government till they are paid.
“Rainbow party, stands with the farmers in this fight,” Mr Chileshe said.
