NEITHER I nor President Edgar Lungu will show allegiance to anybody that has plans to contest the presidency of the Patriotic Front and people who feel they have what it takes should come forward, acting Secretary-General Nickson Chilangwa has said.
Mr Chilangwa said it was not Mr Lungu’s mandate to choose a leader of the party because he had indicated that he needed to rest and that it was not just right.
He said he was the administrator of the party and that he did not have a preferred candidate and that all those that were interested should state their position.
Mr Chilangwa said all those interested needed to come out so that the general conference could choose an individual that could take the party to the next level.
“I know people have preferences but democracy entails that people should respect each other’s views and not force their way,” Mr Chilangwa said.
He said that there was a misconception over the issue of the general conference because the party had indicated that it would even be before June.
Mr Chilangwa said he did not have an issue having the post-mortem even the following day but that there were a number of issues the party needed to deal with, for example the issue of persecutions as the party needed to find money to pay lawyers.
And on government appointments, Mr Chilangwa said President Hakainde Hichilema had powers to make changes in the civil service and that it is a normal routine because he has to bring in people that will push his agenda.
“The President has a prerogative to choose people he can work with and there is no problem with that,” Mr Chilangwa said.
