DP woes deepen as Kalaba is reported for perjury
By NATION REPORTER
THE woes in the Democratic Party have deepened after the embattled President, Mr Harry Kalaba was reported to police by his deputy, Ms Judith Kabemba for perjury.
Ms Kabemba reported Mr Kalaba at Lusaka’s Central Police for lying under oath to the courts of law that he was leader of the DP.
She said that they had just asked Mr Kalaba to contest as the DP president and was shocked that he had continued clinging to power.
Ms Kabemba said he had lied on oath and that it was a serious case which the police needed to deal with it.
“He is just desperate and should not claim that we have been bought by the UPND because the ruling party was not there when the party asked him to contest,” she said.
She said that Mr Kalaba claimed that the DP constitution was amended during a meeting at Amaka Lodge which was false because it was clear that such an action could only be done at a general conference.
But the Kalaba faction spokesperson Mwanawina Kwibisa said Ms Kabemba was disrespecting the judiciary.
He said it was clear that Ms Kabemba was a sponsored gun and was trying to fan confusion in the party.
Mr Kwibisa said that they had remained quiet because the matter was still in court and was surprised that she was desperate to an extent of disrespecting a judge.
“Ms Kabemba is disrespecting the systems which is very wrong because the matter is still in court,” Mr Kwibisa said.
