“I FOUND her standing with my husband at the roadside and she slapped my two weeks old baby and that’s when arguments started,” Ruth Ngoma Simunkombwe told the court when she appeared on a charge unlawful wounding .
This is in a matter in which 32 year old Simunkombwe of Mwapona Compound in Choma is charged with unlawful wounding of Astridah Mudenda on June 9, 2021 in Choma District of Southern Province, contrary to the laws of Zambia.
She told the court that the bad blood started on February 8, 2021 when she found the complainant with her husband and she allegedly slapped her two weeks old baby.
Simunkombwe told the court that she then reported the issue to the complainant’s elder sister who promised to resolve the issue but did not.
“On June 5, 2021 my husband and I were in Shampande looking for piece work and when we went back home, found the complainant scattered all the things in my house, including the bedroom on the pretext that she was looking for her belongings,” narrated Simunkombwe.
She further said June 9, 2021 the accused found her planting onion and came with a stick, beat her on the arm and that was how they started fighting for the hoe which hit the complainant on her arm and head.
Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Mungala has since set November 30, 2021 for judgement while the accused’s police bond has been extended.
