The Patriotic Front (PF) needs to allow democracy and transparency at the national party by giving the party members their choice rather than imposing a leader, Former PF member Maxwell Chongo has said.
Mr. Chongo said what the party needs was simply to allow transparency and democracy to flow at the national party conference by allowing people to choose the leaders that they wanted.
He said imposing leaders would be catastrophic as it had already been proven from the August 12 general election where the PF suffered defeat because of the bad choice of leaders.
Mr. Chongo said the adoption process of leaving out leaders that the people wanted yielded an embarrassing devastating loss for the party and should be avoided at all cost.
“Allow democracy and transparency to flow like a river,” he said.
He also said that the party should offer positive and credible criticism to the UPND government if they wanted the people of Zambia to start trusting them again.
Mr. Chongu said the current stance that the party had taken of voicing out anything that the UPND does including on things that do not add value to the development of the country, will not take the party anywhere.
He said even UPND itself needs a credible opposition to offer checks and balances above all positive criticism if it was to deliver on most of its campaign promises.
Mr. Chongo said that it was important for the PF as a party to rebuild with new faces, new ideas that would certainly give hope to the party structures.
