EVIL acts that have disintegrated the country are deepening under the new regime, making it seem as if the country is cursed, Patriotic Front (PF) senior member Chishimba Kambwili has charged said. And Mr Kambwili has appealed to Republican President Hakainde Hichilema to stop arrests of political opponents because this is something he vowed he never to do when he was an opposition leader.
Mr Kambwili was reacting to the dramatic arrests of Patriotic Front members of parliament and local authorites as well that of Amos Chanda, former press aide to former president Edgar Lungu.
He said it was inconceivable that someone aspiring to be a member of Parliament would burn a vehicle, and asked the President to stop the unnecessary arrests. Mr Kambwili said he and President Hakainde Hichilema during alliance time agreed to stop unnecessary arrests of political opponents if they formed government but he has gone against it.
“Personally, one on one with HH, we talked about never allowing such things to continue,” he said. Mr Kambwili , who is former National Democratic Congress party leader, said “I am extremely disappointed and Zambians are keeping quiet. To say the truth, we are creating a monster that will be very difficult to control. He said what is happening today is what exactly happened in previous governments.
Mr Kambwili said it is shocking that Mr Hichilema could do things that he condemned when he was in opposition. Mr Kambwili said the arrest of Nickson Chilangwa, Ronald Chitotela, Kasalwe Mukosa and many others on assault cases was taking the country backwards. This is what Zambians voted against, he said, but it appears the country seems to be cursed.
