A senior government official in Serenje has cautioned farmers against selling farming inputs saying those found wanting should be ready to face the wrath of the law.
District Commissioner Andrew Mpyakulya said this when Nyimba Investments Head-Sales and Marketing Willings Mulendema paid a courtesy call on him.
He said the government has taken agriculture seriously hence supplying inputs on time. Mr Mpyakulya therefore urged the farmers not to sell the inputs but put them to good use.
Nyimba Investments was contracted by the government to supply and deliver 3,334 metric tonnes of Compound D fertiliser for the 2021/22 farming season. He thanked Nyimba Investments for the timely delivery saying it was in line with the vision of the government.
District Agricultural Coordinator (DACO) Jacob Shawa said the farmers in the district were able to collect inputs early because Nyimba had supplied and delivered on time.
A beneficiary Edna Mwitwa said she was happy that Compound D was received before the planting season. She said because Compound D was received early, she was able to prepare her field before the rains started.
“I got the fertiliser early and I am sure I will have a good yield. I thank the government for bringing the inputs to Serenje early,” she said.
