GOVERENMNET should deploy all the 30, 000 teachers at once because this budget captures all the teachers to be deployed at once and not in phasess, Zambia National Union of Teachers Secretary-General Newman Bubala has said.
In an interview, Mr Bubala said the deployment of teachers should be done immediately because the process is budgeted for.
Mr Bubala however advised Government that it should first look at priority areas especially the rural areas where the teacher- pupil ratio has been a serious issue.
He said the government must also look into issues raised by school authorities in rural areas such as development of infrastructure, communication and lack of banking services.
He however called on the Teaching Service Commission and Ministry of Education to work closely and give data were teachers are needed most and in which fields.
Mr Bubala commended the government for its intention to recruit 30, 000 teachers which will reduce the teaching deficit in the country.
He also appealed to those who would be recruited not to turn down the appointments, but to accept wherever they will be posted.
“The recruitment is very urgent and should be done once especially for schools in rural areas and the government must also ensure that they deploy teachers who will be able to communicate with the leaners properly because in most areas there have been language barriers between teachers and learners,” said Mr Bubala.
