PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema must firmly stop the brutal attacks of UPND cadres on Patriotic Front (PF) members and ensure that peace prevails in the country, veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga has said.
Dr Mwaanga said UPND cadres were taking the country backwards with their continued violent behaviour.
He said attacks on PF members were not going to bring development in anyway, but that they were taking the country backwards.
Dr Mwaanga called for civility among the UPND cadres, saying that Zambia was a democratic country and there was need for citizens to remain responsible in the manner politics were being conducted.
He said responsibility and rights should always balance so that peace and tranquility continue to prevail in the nation.
Dr Mwaanga said he expected to see a peaceful co-existence between PF and UPND following a peaceful hand over of power.
He urged political parties to promote co-existence as the country was already burdened with so many challenges that needed urgent attention.
Dr Mwaanga said it was time to give attention to practical issues rather than fighting each other over irrelevant issues.
“If political parties continue fighting and attacking each other every day then development will not be attained and the country will remain at the same stage,” he said.
