Be sincere on LGBT, Government told
By JOHN KOMBE
The debate on the United Party for National Development (UPND) position on Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) is still a thorny issue which leaves citizens guessing due to the lack of sincerity by new dawn government, a Lusaka clergyman, Moses Lungu has said.
In an interview, Rev. Lungu said that the UPND must come out very clear on its position because this was a very critical issue that had raised concerns by various stakeholders.
He argued that the country had established moral and cultural values that do not subscribe to LGBT and as such the matter must not be trivialised or ignored.
He said that the allegations were just a tip of an iceberg and the UPND needs to search themselves on the matter.
He said that the UPND position on the matter was still blared despite several explanations that do not respond adequately to concerns or allegations by various stakeholders.
He therefore advised the new dawn government to publicly declare its position and substantiate its position with facts.
Mr. Lungu further observed that such a matter can derail development if not well handled and urged the new dawn government to ensure that it protects Zambia’s values that are pro-Christian.
He said that the people had high expectations from the UPND government and would not support a diversion from the values that are embedded in Zambian culture.
He said that such a matter must not even be discussed in a country that calls itself a Christian nation.
