HOME Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimba should not just issue warnings against police officers still mounting illegal check points but back this up with action against culprits, Commuters Association of Zambia president Aaron Kamuti has said.
Mr Kamuti said Government should start acting instead of issuing pronouncements because they will not be taken seriously by the public.
This follows revelations that some traffic officers had been defying the order to stop mounting roadblocks in undesignated areas.
Mr Kamuti said many times government make pronouncements which were not acted upon.
Meanwhile, Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) president Sean Tembo has said it was unacceptable that the minister made the pronouncement without first consulting the Police command and made disparaging remarks against them in public.
Mr Tembo has asked Mr Mwiimbu to reverse his decision on the mounting of road blocks.
He said the manner in which the minister issued the announcement was disrespectful to the Police Service as they were failing to discharge their duties professionally because of public ridicule.
Mr Tembo said there was need to restore law and order by allowing the police to continue with road blocks.
