A suspected political cadre has been apprehended in Lusaka’s Bauleni Township in connection with an incident in which a fire arm was illegally discharged after rival political groups clashed.
And Police spokesperson Mwata Katongo has advised political players to contain their emotions as results of Thursday’s polls are being announced.
Katongo identified the suspect apprehended by military personnel in Bauleni during patrols as, Pelekani Zulu.
Katongo said the gun was believed o have been fired as rival political groups clashed.
Katongo said police was still investigating the matter.
Katongo also said police had also recorded an incident of a clash between rival political groups in Ntindi Village, in which a resident identified as Jeffrey Simovya was injured and has since been hospitalised.
Yesterday, suspected UPND cadres went to cause commotion in Bauleni area, leading to clashes ensuing.
This was after suspected UPND cadres descended on a shop believed to be owned by PF members and started assaulting a group of people clad in green t-shirts who they found at the shop.
Upon seeing the irate UPND cadres, some residents of the area begun to retaliate leading to violent clashes.
Calm only returned after police fired teargas canisters to disperse the growing crowds.
And Katongo has called on political players to find means to contain their emotions.
He said the Police service has observed a trend in people discharging licensed guns during political clashes.
Katongo reminded that attending public events with a gun was an offence.
