THE ministry of Health has warned Zambians of a possible fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic between November and December and called for adherence to preventive measures.
Ministry Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Dr Kennedy Malama said that Zambians needed to get vaccinated because the country was likely to get a fourth wave of the Covid-19 in November.
Dr Malama said that people needed to get their vaccines in order to protect themselves from the fourth wave.
He said that the country would receive 100,000 doses of Sinopharm from the people’s republic of China on tomorrow.
Dr Malama said government was working extremely hard to ensure that the vaccines were rolled out in the country to cater for the vast increase in demand.
“Like I said earlier government has procured 4.4 million doses of Johnson and Johnson and we are just waiting for Africa Vaccine Acquisition to confirm the dates,’’ he said.
He said the coming in of the vaccines would help normalize the situation on Covid-19 in the country.
Dr Malama said they had recorded a total of 17 deaths in the country attributed to the late reporting by people.
“The deaths are as follows Lusaka recorded 4, Eastern 3, Southern3, Luapula 2, North Western 2, Copperbelt 1 and Western 2 two cases,’’ he said.
He said the total number of deaths was now at 3447 but that the number of admissions had reduced to just 53 cases.
Dr Malama said that the country recorded a total number of 664 new cases of Covid-19 with an eight percent positivity rate while 621 people were discharged.
He said a total of 60% of vaccinations had been done from the vaccines that had been received and that they still had some vaccines in stock.
