UNITED Kingdom-based research magazine, The Economist Intelligence Unit, has predicted that President Edgar Lungu and the Patriotic Front will win the August 12 General Election.
The EIU is a research and analysis division of The Economist Group, the sister company to The Economist newspaper and has been in existence for over 70 years.
In its latest analysis, the EIU stated that despite a turbulent time in power, amid a recession and debt crisis, President Lungu and his party has remained steadfast and will win the tight presidential and legislative polls.
“We expect the ruling party, the Patriotic Front (PF), led by the President, Edgar Lungu, to remain in power over the 2021-25 forecast period,” EIU stated in its brief report.
“Despite a turbulent time in power, we expect Mr Lungu and the PF to win tight presidential and legislative polls in 2021, even amid a recession and debt crisis,” it said.
The EIU also predicted that Zambia’s economic growth will recover from a low base in 2022 and strengthen gradually, aided by elevated global prices for copper for most of 2021-25.
A recent opinion poll by the Political Science Association of Zambia in collaboration with Faraline of the United Kingdom and Media Theory of USA, also predicted that President Edgar Lungu will likely win the 2021 General Elections with a comfortable margin.
