THE Zambia Boxing Federation ZBF has selected 22 boxers to represent Zambia at the African Boxing Championship qualifiers to be held in Congo Brazzaville on May 26.
In an interview with the Daily Nation Sports in Lusaka, ZBF general secretary Bright Chomba said the boxers will today enter residential camp to prepare for the tournament.
He said that the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) will host the boxers until their time of departure for Congo.
“The 22 boxers were selected by the technical committee during a tournament we recently held at OYDC except for Orience Lungu, the Zambian female boxer based in United Kingdom,” Chomba said.
Green Buffaloes’ Chishimba Simoya, Ben Banda from Lubengelo and Exodus’ Margaret Banda will represent Zambia in the light weight category.
In the flyweight category are Oriental Quarries’ Davy Mwale, Red Arrow’s Juliana Kasonka, GBBC’s Hilder Ngandwe and Natasha Mumba from Lubengele.
ZNS’s Evaristo Mulenga, Moffat Baka, Aliuce Mbewe of Exodus and Lubengele’s Natasha Mumba will represent the country in the bantamweight division while Luamuno Siamuche from Kalewa Boxing Promotions will represent the country in the feather weight category.
Simon Ngoma of Exodus, OQBP’S Emmanuel Ngoma, Red Arrows Felistus Ngandu, Rodwell Ngulube and Dennis Kamanga of Nakambala will represent Zambia in the light welter weight category.
GBBC’s Charles Lumbwe and Zambia’s foreign-based Orience Lungu will represent Zambia in the welter weight category while Ben Machinda from GBBC and Mbachi Kaonga of Red Arrows fight in the light welterweight category.
Nkwazi’s Nkumbu Silungwe and Lusenga’s Benson Kashinka will represent Zambia in the welterweight category while Ben Muchindu Muzio of GBBC and Mbachi Kaonga of Red Arrows are in the middle welterweight class.
The team will be led by the technical staff of Ellias Kataya, Wisdom Mudenda, Jonathan Mwila, Davis Zimba and Greeting Kaonga.
