ZAMBIA’S envoys in the CAF Champions League tournament, Zanaco, will seek to collect their first group stage win when they host Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in today’s fixture to be played at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
This will be Zanaco’s second CAF Champions’ League Group D fixture of the tournament after their barren draw with record eight-times CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly in the first Group D match played in Alexandria, Egypt.
The Zambian champions will also seek to collect maximum points having recorded a barren draw against Nkana in last Saturday’s league game.
And speaking during an interview with Daily Nation Sports in Lusaka, Zanaco head coach Numba Mumamba said his team was ready and focused on collecting maximum points against the Moroccan giants.
“We are ready for this Wednesday’s fixture against Wydad Casablanca. We are improving in each and every game but there are some areas were we still need to work on before the game,” Mumamba said
Mumamba said he was confident Zanaco would collect maximum points against Casablanca, noting that the Moroccan champions are a beatable side.
“Wydad are a beatable side and I think we can be able to collect maximum points when we face them,” Mumamba told Daily Nation Sports.
And Grace Chaile Lesoetsa reports that Zesco United coach Zlatko Krmpotic says he is not under pressure to secure an away win against Sudanese side Al Hilal Elobied in the Group C of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Zesco are second on the log on joint three points with leaders Recreativo do Libolo of Angola.
The Zambian side displayed a not-so-impressive performance in their opening Group C match against Smouha of Egypt in Ndola on May 13, and were only saved by a penalty converted by Jesse Were.
But Krmpotic says Zesco has put the past behind them and the boys were ready to take on Al Hilal at Al Abyed Stadium tonight.
“It will not be an easy game, Al Hilal is a good side. We came here for one objective – to win and top Group C,” he said.
Krmpotic will look to Fackson Kapumbu, Idris Mbombo and Jesse Were to command the frontline.
The Zesco squad: Marcel Kasongo Kalonda, Idris Mbombo, Patrick Kashita Kongolo, Ben Adama Banh, David Owino Odhiambo, Anthony Akumu Agay, Jesse Jackson Were, Jacob Banda, Lameck Nyangu, Daut Musekwa, Fackson Kapumbu, Misheck Chaila, John Chingandu, Kondwani Mtonga, Simon Silwimba, Dave Daka, Lazarous Kambole, Bornwell Elijah Silengo.
