ZAMBIA’s basketball can improve if more leagues were formulated in all communities to create a wider pool of talent, says United Kingdom junior coach Jack Preston.
Preston who is in Zambia to conduct coaching session for young basketballers said players lacked the platform where to grow their talent because of limited leagues especially at junior level.
“The talent is there but the opportunity to grow the talent is not there. Zambia can reach the level of top rated countries if they create more leagues in all places,” he said.
He also noted that the sport lacked qualified coaches to drill the players.
“They should invest in capacity building of coaches. There are few coaches which is a setback in the development of the sport,” he said.
Meanwhile, Preston was impressed with the basketballer’s hard work and energy during training sessions.
He said the competition among the kids was very high and they just required support to reach far in their career.
