GOVERNMENT has assured clergymen, both locally and internationally, that Zambia will always remain a Christian nation.
Religious and National Affairs Minister Godfridah Sumaili says that those claiming that Zambia had become a dictatorship were liars.
She said that there were rumours that the country had become a dictatorship and a one-party State.
The minister said this in a statement read on her behalf by acting Livingstone district commissioner James Zimba at the on-going three day crusade by Nigerian preacher Chris Okafor.
“Let me assure you that Zambia welcomes every clergyman and woman from all over the world to share the living word of our mighty lord,” she said.
“I would like to dispel rumours speculating from other media houses that portrayed a picture that Zambia does not accept foreign clergymen to visit Zambia,” she said
“Zambia welcomes anyone to visit the country provided they have satisfied the guidelines that permits his or her visit,” said the minister.
She said that President Edgar Lungu was himself is a Christian.
“Our President is a Christian and his leadership reaffirmed the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation and has further set aside 18th October every year a day of national prayers,” she said.
