THE Word Bank says it will remain a trusted partner of the Zambian Government.
Senior Financial Management Specialist, Srinivas Gurazada, said the World Bank was committed to working with Government to maintain financial health of Zambia.
He said this would be done through strengthening of the accounting profession.
Mr Gurazada was speaking at the launch of Chartered Accountant (CA) Zambia Professional qualification by the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) held at Lusaka’s Radisson Blu Hotel.
“It is time to proudly look back at what Zambia’s accounting profession achieved in the past one decade,” he said.
Accountants shoulder the responsibility of ensuring that financial, economic and ethical systems in the country remain sound,” he said.
He said the World Bank recognised the importance of the accountancy profession.
“Let me assure you (Government) that whether it is the broader Public Financial Management reforms to the accounting profession, World Bank will always remain your trusted partner.”
It is usually understood that existence of a robust national professional accounting body with a critical mass of qualified accountants is a precondition for good governance based on intergrity, transparency and accountability.”
He explained that the CA Zambia qualification was part of key focus areas that the World Bank would support.
“Accounting profession has come to age. There is perhaps no better time in the history than this to be a Chartered Accountant,” said Mr Gurazada.
