CHIPOLOPOLO coach Wedson Nyirenda has challenged the players summoned for camp to work hard for them to earn a spot in the final team to face Gabon in an international friendly to be played on June 4 in Libreville.
Nyirenda has summoned 29 players consisting of Lumwana Radiants goalie, Charles Mweemba, and Nkana’s Kelvin Malunga who has been summoned for the first time for national duty.
Nyirenda also summoned defender, Enock Chingwele of Lumwana Radiants, Kabwe Warriors’ Moonga Chilimba and Mwila Phiri from Green Eagles for the training camp with Zanaco and Zesco United players excused from the assignment as they are engaged with their clubs which are taking part in CAF club tournaments.
And Nyirenda said there is need for the summoned players to take advantage of the absence of Zanaco and Zesco players and prove their capabilities.
“The absence of Zanaco and Zesco United players, who are taking part in CAF club tournaments, has given us a chance to increase our pool for our national team call-ups.
“For the new call-ups it is a chance to show that they have what it takes. We will not have Zanaco and Zesco United players,” Nyirenda said.
Meanwhile, FAZ has cancelled the planned Chipolopolo’s international friendly match against Ethiopia which was scheduled for May 27 owing to a congested calendar.
FAZ had lined up two back-to-back international friendly matches against Ethiopia and Gabon as Zambia prepares for the June 10 Africa Cup qualifier against Mozambique in Ndola.
The Chipolopolo broke camp yesterday for players to feature for their respective clubs in today’s league games with the team expected to regroup on May 28 to prepare for the Gabon friendly.
Foreign-based players will join in the final phase of training before Zambia faces Mozambique on 10th June.
Zambia is in Group K alongside Namibia, Guinea Bissau and Mozambique in the race for the Cameroun 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
