FORMER Mufulira Wanderers supporters club chairman Wesley Mutembo has joined a horde of club faithfuls accusing the club executive of failing to manage the club properly.
In a statement to the Daily Nation sports in Lusaka, Mutembo said incompetence had engulfed the club as management had failed to provide the leadership befitting a club in top flight football making the team a shell of its former self.
He said the running of a club in the super league required a proactive, and business-minded executive equipped with the technicalities of addressing challenges faced in modern football by coming up with innovations that will see the team excel.
“The club executive committee assembled at the club has limited competences to steer this great club to higher heights and sustain it.
“The running of a club in the super league especially a big one such as Mufulira Wanderers requires a very business minded executive committee. The truth of the matter is that these attributes are not there in the current committee,” Mutembo said.
He says a successful Mufulira Wanderers would improve the image of sponsors Mopani Copper Mines and has called on the sponsors, Mopani Copper Mines to appoint personnel who will be able to meet the challenges the club is facing.
“I wish to make an earnest appeal to Mopani to appoint competent people who will meet the challenges of running a super league club to be at the helm of the club to the club all dwindling fortunes will continue to characterise the once “Mighty” club.
“As the main sponsor of the club who put in so much money in the club, I expect that they would want their investment to have a good return. A successful Mufulira Wanderers will enhance the image of Mopani Copper Mines to a very large extent,” he said.
Last week, Mufulira Wanderers head coach Ahmed Suliman accused some members at the club of not being serious with the management of the team.
Efforts to get a comment from Wanderers secretary general were unsuccessful as his phone went unanswered.
Wanderers have lost the opening two matches in the MTN/FAZ super league.
The team lost its first fixture to Green Buffaloes 3-0 and went on to record an embarrassing 4-1 loss to City of Lusaka in the second game.
