A UPND councillor in Mwinilunga district has been arrested for alleged forgery.
North Western commissioner of police Auxensio Daka identified the suspect as Felix Kuwema, 29, of Mudanyama ward.
Mr Daka explained that Kuwema on 31 May during the 2016 general elections nominations submitted a copy of a Grade 12 certificate to the returning officer, Ilsah Mayeba, which he had tempered with.
He said Mr Kuwema alleged that he had sat for his examinations at Lunga Day Secondary School using examination number 7060830087 when in fact not.
“But according to the Examinations Council of Zambia ( ECZ) records, Kuwema obtained eight in English, R.E nine, Kaonde three, mathematics nine, biology nine, science and home management nine and seven respectively.
‘‘And this was contrary to what he presented to the returning officer were he purported to have obtained grades three, two, three, four in English, Kaonde, R.E and mathematics and five, five, and one in cience, biology and home management respectively,’’ Mr Daka explained.
He said after investigations, it was discovered that the examination number was for Donny Wishikoti who sat for his examinations at Mwinilunga Secondary School.
“He has since been charged with forgery and will appear in court soon,’’ he added.
In a related incident, a 43-year-old man of Chizela area in Mufumbwe district has been arrested for a similar offence.
Mr Daka said George Masandishi who stood as an independent candidate and was not elected as councillor in Munyambala ward forged and uttered a Grade 12 certificate during the 2016 general elections.
“He forged the certificate at Lusaka city market. He has since been arrested for the offence and will be appearing in court soon.
