ANTI-VOTER Apathy Project (AVAP) North Western Province coordinator Cranes Kasito has asked politicians to accept that Zambia can only have one President at any given time.
Mr Kasito said people should understand that regime change was a source of anarchy which could only be avoided if the losers in an election could accept the will of the people and avoid tension.
‘’And for now God has given a chance to one leader and that is Edgar Lungu. That is how the church is supposed to come out and there are some sections of society which is aggrieved. They have to wait for 2021,” he said.
He also said President Lungu should not be detracted by some sections of society that had refused to recognise him. Mr Kasito said the President should be focused because he had a mandate to manage the affairs of the nation. And (AVAP) in the province says the church in Zambia had failed to advocate for peace and unity because it was divided.
Mr Kasito told the Daily Nation in an interview that the church was embroiled in politics which had compromised it.
‘’A while ago, the leaders of the church mother bodies issued a statement. At the end of the day it was said that it did not consult its members. So, this shows you how divided the church is,” Mr Kasito said.
He said the church should take a lead in reconciling and healing open wounds among politicians and eliminate hatred and bitterness in the country.
He said there is a lot of hatred and bitterness in Zambia, especially among politicians which needed to be addressed with help of the church.
‘’But it is very disappointing to note that some church leaders have joined and contributing to the situation. It is not right. The church should be neutral,” he said.
