PATRIOTIC Front media director Sunday Chanda’s young brother, Mapalo Chanda, has been murdered in cold blood in Kalomo.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police Bonny Kapeso, who confirmed the incidence to Daily Nation in a statement, said Mapalo was murdered in Kanchele village in Chief Sipatunyana’s area in Kalomo.
Mr Kapeso said Mapalo was allegedly brutally murdered by Talent Nchimunya Munkombwe aged 22 years of Kanchele village in the early hours on Saturday morning around 04:00hours. “The incident happened when Mapalo went to demand for the money owed to him by the suspect,” he said.
Mr Kapeso also confirmed that the suspect had been arrested and was detained at Kalomo police station while the deceased’s body which was in Kalomo District Hospital mortuary was transferred to Lusaka by his relatives.
Mr Kapeso disclosed that Mapalo sustained multiple cuts on the head and hands, adding that Munkombwe used shear from an ox plough as a weapon.
Meanwhile, his elder brother Mr Chanda who also confirmed the death of Mapalo to the Daily Nation, explained that his young brother, who was aged 27 was working as an auditor with the Auditor General’s Office.
“The incident happened in the early hours of yesterday (Saturday) and his body was dumped into a pit latrine,” he said.
Mr Chanda said Mapalo was number 11 in his family.
When asked what could have led to the murder of his brother, Mr Chanda said his family would only be able to issue a statement after police have done their investigations. The family was also waiting for a postmortem to be conducted.
Mr Chanda said Mapalo’s body will be put to rest tomorrow in Lusaka.
