POLITICIANS must stop blaming foreigners for economic challenges Zambia is facing, Rainbow party has charged.
In an interview, Luapula provincial party chairman, Reverend Bernard Manda Chiwele said it was wrong for some opposition leaders to blame foreign nationals over internal problems.
Rev Chiwele was particularly angered by Chishimba Kambwili over his alleged remarks inciting violence against Chinese nationals.
“The National Democratic Congress (NDC) consultant must tame his tongue. President Edgar Lungu has been tolerating his nonsense but he is now crossing the line. He must be stopped.”
He explained Mr Kambwili’s remarks were not only recipe for xenophobic attacks but also denting the reputation of Zambia in the eyes the international community.
“Instead of blaming Chinese for the poverty and unemployment the people of Zambia are facing, we should engage them to assist us to address such problems.
“Comrade Kambwili must be reminded that China can survive without Zambia and not vice versa.
And a person who once served as foreign affairs minister must understand the repercussions of his negative statements against foreign nationals,” said Rev Chiwele.
Rev Chiwele however appealed to Zambians to continue embracing foreign nationals as partners of development
