SOLWEZI Municipal council has adopted estimates of revenue and expenditure totaling K55, 525,399 for 2018
Council Town Clerk Seke Mbulo told the Daily Nation in an interview that the bigger chunk of the sources of revenue to support the budget would come from local taxes such as property rates.
‘’And these are taxes which come from those with property in Solwezi, according to the rating Act of the laws of Zambia, Mr Mbulo said.
He said the rates were separated between mining properties where the main payer is Kansanshi mine, commercial properties, as well as residential properties within the district.
He said other sources would come from fees, licences, levies, permits, as well as grants from the central government.
‘’On grants from Central Government, we are talking of the Local Government Equalisation Fund which is slightly under K10 million, the constituency development fund (CDF) which is K1.4 million. All together making up the K55 million, he said.
He said the expenditure proposals which had been adopted are subject to approval by the Minister of Local Government and Housing.
‘’The proposals are that out of the K55 million, K16 million would be spent on personal emoluments, these are salaries and wages for workers, another K16 million will be spent on services,” he said.
He further disclosed that about K 100,000 will be spent on social benefits while about K6million and K7.5 million would be used on non-financial assets and clearing of debts respectively.
