POLITICAL cadres must not control markets and bus stations as they had proved that they had no interest of public health and people but finances which they raised after heavily taxing the traders, UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has demanded.
And Mr Hichilema said the PF government should not feel insecure when UPND join in the fight against cholera because it was not politicizing the situation but doing it for the people of Zambia.
Speaking when he was featured on HOT FM’s ‘hot seat radio programme’ yesterday, Mr Hichilema said markets and bus stations must be run by the local authority and not political cadres.
He appealed to the government to stop PF cadres from collecting market and bus station fees as the revenue and role belonged to the council to enable it provide clean water and toilets.
“No cadres should be allowed to control the markets and bus station. The councils should re-take and allow it to run the markets and bus stations without political interference and undue pressure, so that we can restore order and sanity in these public places. Our council officers are scared of controlling these cadres for fear of victimisation by the PF cadres,” he said.
