ZAMBIA should embrace a new culture by shunning foul-mouthed politicians bent on sowing seeds of division, says Chief Chikwanda of the Bemba speaking people of Mpika.
The traditional ruler said Zambians should not entertain or usher into any public office politicians who love insults because they will not be good role models for the younger generation.
He said the degeneration of morals could be avoided by rejecting leaders that are known to be fond of insults.
This behaviour, he said, was at variance with the status of Zambia as a Christian nation.
Chief Chikwanda said that leadership should not be acquired forcibly and that people should endeavour to compete amicably.
“Some leaders, you even wonder whether they are in a Christian nation or not. Why should we practice politics of insults if we declare that Zambia is Christian nation?” he asked.
Chief Chikwanda pointed out that being in the opposition did not entail criticising whatever the ruling party was doing.
He emphasised that the opposition should advise reasonably if they were to offer ideal checks and balances to the government.
Chief Chikwanda said that politics of insults was long gone and that it was practiced before independence.
The chief said that politicians should respect each other and sell their ideologies to the people, not insults.
He said that politics was supposed to be a competition based on mutual respect regardless of different ideologies.
Chief Chikwanda urged people to be watchful of politicians who did not have the best intentions for Zambians and the nation.
