DENYING legitimacy of the republican President Edgar Lungu is the source of conflict in the country and therefore the church mother bodies who sat with the Government must use this opportunity to deal with the issue, Zambia Republican party president Wright Musoma has said.
Mr Musoma said it was the responsibility of the church to bring conflicts to an end through calling a spade a spade without siding with any political grouping to save their own interests.
He alleged that the church were aware of the cause of the problem, but that they were taking sides in the manner they were handling issues of national interest.
Mr Musoma claimed there was no tension in the country as portrayed by some people, but that now that the church were available, it was vital that they tame the opposition UPND directly and ensure they abide by the law.
He said it would be illegal for President Lungu to release anyone as such would be against the law.
“President Lungu has got powers invested in him to only pardon, but not releasing anyone who is facing the law, and these are the things the people of Zambia should understand.
‘‘I want to encourage the church mother bodies to be sincere when dealing with such issues and they must use this opportunity to correct the wrongs and deal with issues without taking sides,” he said.
Mr Musoma said any crime committed by anyone was punishable regardless of status, adding that dialogue could only be possible where political parties were willing to give chance to the government of the day to discharge their duties.
