ZAMBIANS have been urged to bury their differences as the country observes one week of prayer and fasting for rains and against cholera outbreak.
Bishop Eddie Mulenga of Liberty Christian Centre in Lusaka has called on all well-meaning Zambians to obey the announcement by Religious and Guidance Minister, Reverend Godfridah Sumaili that Zambia would pray and fast from Monday, January 15 to January, 21 2018 for rains and against cholera outbreak.
Bishop Mulenga made the remarks on HOT FM phone in Radio programme, dubbed Z 6 to 6, after some callers criticised government for banning church gatherings as a measure to curtail further spread of the disease while some bars were allowed to operate.
One caller complained, “The government must be advised on how the church should be handled.
“They asked us not to meet first Sunday of the year which was very important for us but allowed bars to operate.
“Now they want us to fast and pray for seven days I think they should apologise for stopping our services,”
But Bishop Mulenga acknowledged the various concerns raised on the programme adding that he was not in a position to state how much support the national prayer would receive. “In line with the scriptures 2 chronicles 7 vs 14, Daniel 9 vs 3-23 and Isaiah 1 vs 9, every Zambian is called upon to offer prayer for 30 minutes,” he said. The Clergyman said this fasting was beyond the minister and asked all well meaningful Zambians to pray if they were called to oversee the nation spiritually. Bishop Mulenga explained that those who did not want to heed to the call of praying and fasting should realize that the prayers they were offering were in the best interest of the nation because the bible encouraged them to pray and carry each other’s burdens. “Let the nation of Zambia pray because the bible encourages us to carry each other’s burdens and be able to pray for each other I call on every Zambian to pray,” he said.
Rev. Sumaili has since called upon every Zambian to offer 30 Minutes of Prayer for seven days as the church joins the war against the Cholera outbreak.
