OVER 5,700 people have been targeted for the social cash transfer scheme in Chisamba, district commissioner Martin Chowa has said.
Mr Chowa said the targeted people were currently being registered for the scheme which was expected to take off before the end of October.
Speaking to the Daily Nation in an interview, Mr Chowa said of the 5,705 people 211 were disabled while the rest were women aged 65 and above as well as child headed homes.
He said enumerators were already on ground capturing data for the would-be beneficiaries after which the ministry of community development and social services will come in and give the date for fund disbursement.
The district commissioner said that the coming of the scheme has cheered people in the district and has given them a sense of belonging.
“When people in Chisamba heard that the social cash transfer is coming to the area, they were excited and said that they now feel to be part of the nation,” he said.
Mr Chowa was optimistic that the scheme would help reduce poverty in the rural parts of Chisamba district.
He has since urged the would-be beneficiaries to venture into viable projects to improve their lives.
