Twelve times league champions Nkana FC recorded their fourth loss of the 2017 soccer season after being thumped 2-1 by police-sponsored Nkwazi in a rescheduled Week 13 fixture played at Edwin Imboela Stadium In Lusaka.
The Wusakile-based Super Division side began the lunch-time kick-off carelessly and were left holding their heads when Edward Mwamba gave Nkwazi the lead in the 4th minute.
But despite controversy surrounding his transfer case, Walter Bwalya beat Nkwazi goal keeper Charles Muntanga with a powerful header to equalize in the 38th minute.
With both teams having approached the second half cautiously, it was the policemen who stunned the Red Devils when striker Justin Shonga scored the winning goal five minutes into the second half.
The win pushed Nkwazi to 20 points on the league table.
Meanwhile, in the second fixture played at the same venue, Napsa Stars moved to second on the league table with 22 points after beating Lumwana Radiants by a lone goal.
Youremember Banda struck in the 19th minute of the game after benefiting from a well-executed corner kick by Collins Sikombe.
At the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, Lusaka Dynamos shot back to the summit of the league table after edging a blunt Green Buffaloes 1-0 yesterday, Grace Chaile-Leseotsa reports.
The victory moved the elite side to 23 points, a point ahead of second-placed Napsa Stars.
Dynamos opened the Week 13 match at National Heroes Stadium on a high note and could have opened the scoring in the eighth minute but Chris Mugalu shot wide.
But Mugalu’s hard work paid off in the 23rd minute, putting Lusaka Dynamos ahead with a powerful shot from inside the box.
After the break, Green Buffaloes enjoyed a bigger share of the game but were miserable on target.
In Choma, a seventh minute Mwila Phiri’s goal was enough to end Green Eagle’s losing streak, beating struggling Mufulira Wanderers 1-0 at Independence Stadium.
The win pushed Eagles to 15 points on the log while Wanderers remain stuck in the relegation zone with 10 points.
Kabwe Warriors and City of Lusaka played to a barren draw at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe while Forest Rangers and Nakambala Leopards drew 1-1 at Trade Fair grounds in Ndola.
And at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadiun in Ndola, Buildcon recorded their fourth win of the season, beating Nchanga Rangers 1-0. The win pushed Buildcon to 15 points on the league table.
