PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu’s countrywide tour of projects is commendable as it is giving him a true picture of what is on the ground, Youth Aid has observed.
Youth Aid chairperson Chungu Kachenga said the tour of projects by President Lungu was welcome because Government spends a lot of finances to secure such huge infrastructure development projects.
Mr Kachenga said it was unfortunate and worrisome that some of the projects were usually abandoned halfway by contractors and sometimes never initiated at all.
The non-governmental organisation observed that poorly executed infrastructure projects were making Zambia to lose colossal sums of money through the national coffers which the country could never recover.
Mr Kachenga said President Lungu’s alertness should be fully supported by his ministers and not left to him alone.
He commended President Lungu’s administration for endeavouring to take development to all parts of the country.
“President Lungu’s decision to tour projects is commendable as it is giving him a true reflection of what is taking place because government spends a lot of finances to secure such infrastructure development projects which are usually abandoned halfway by contractors,” he said.
He said the Head of State should ensure that all contracted projects were completed within a reasonable time frame.
Mr Kachenga advised President Lungu to instruct the Attorney General to sue all contractors who are in breach of their contractual obligations because at the end of the day it would be the President and his administration to be blamed.
