PATRIOTIC Front Secretary General Davies Mwila has assured the general membership of the party that longevity of any organisation depends on vision, discipline and unity of purpose.
Mr Mwila cited Article 6 of the Patriotic Front constitution that membership of the party is an honour, which entails a heavy responsibility that demands high political and moral qualities as well as selfless dedication to the cause of the party which is the cause of the people.
Mr Mwila said the party, therefore calls on all members to familiarise themselves with its coonstitution and disciplinary code to appreciate their rights and duties.
He said its founder, late President Michael Sata could not have mobilised the party to a point of it forming government had there not been discipline and he expelled 27 rebel members of Parliament who at the time had gone into the National Constitution Conference, contrary to the position of the party.
He said President Sata believed that no one was indispensable and that principle remains true to this day, hence it has been the party’s position to discipline errant individuals if they do not adhere to the internal process governing intra-party processes.
“Therefore all PF members have a duty to abide by its aims and objectives set out in the constitution, including respecting the constitution and the structures and to work as a loyal member of the organisation; to work towards making the party an even more effective instrument of creating better lives for all our people, and to defend the unity and integrity of the organisation and its principles, and combat any tendency towards disruption and factionalism,” said Mr Mwila said.Mr Mwila also paid glowing tribute to founder and long-standing members, while insisting that in order for the PF to remain Zambia’s number one party of choice, structures must be prioritising attracting new members from other political parties and the general populace.
He also said that it was the PF’s intention to remain relevant to present and future generations and must remain alive to changing times.
“There is only one green colour once you join PF. We shall not polarise membership on the number of greens, whether light, dark or darker – Green is Green and that’s what counts,” he said.
“We are definitely not changing the message, but methods of delivery must change from time to time. The party is dealing with changing tastes in both the old and new generations and will always be open to adaptation without losing itself, its values and vision for the country,” said Mr Mwila.
