…Minister Kaziya “breathes fire”, vows to have corrupt councilors arrested
By Oscar Malipenga
I DO not care how much money they have paid for them to erect structures illegally and encroach on gazetted roads in my constituency, we are demolishing them, Matero law maker, Lloyd Kaziya has declared.
Mr Kaziya, who is also Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, has vowed to deal with all Indians who think they are untouchable and erecting illegal structures by allegedly conniving with corrupt council officials.
Meanwhile, Mr Kaziya has instituted investigations into the illegal sale of plots amongst his councilors and has vowed to have every party official involved arrested by the Zambia Police Service.
He has vowed to immediately start demolishing illegal houses constructed under ZESCO pylons in SOS area barely a week after he directed Lusaka City Council (LCC) to demolish illegal market opposite Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC).
He disclosed that he would collaborate with Minister of Local Government and Minister of Lands counterparts, Vincent Mwale and Jean Kapata respectively, to invoke the Roads Act to deal with Indians in his constituency.
Mr Kaziya said people at the council were conniving with Indians in Emmasdale by getting all the shoulders from the road reserve and extending their wall fences.
“What I am going to do with Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale and Lands Minister Jean Kapata is to invoke the Roads Act to deal with them because the Ministry of Local Government may not have the capacity to deal with them but we are going to invoke the Act that directly deals with roads reserves.
“Knowing this is in my constituency, I want to deal with these guys that think because they have the money they can do whatever they want to do. I will enforce the law that deals with road reserves,” he said.
Mr Kaziya said if everyone did the same, then the roads would be narrow when road reserves were meant to provide space for extension, trucking, piping and drainages.
And Mr Kaziya identified the illegal houses belt under ZESCO pylons as situated between Chunga cemetery and SOS compound.
