THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) will not hesitate to revoke trading licenses for any businesses being illegally used for illicit activities in the city, Lusaka mayor, Wilson Kalumba has warned.
Mr Kalumba called on the police to conduct raids on business entities involved in illicit activities.
The mayor told the Daily Nation that Lusaka was now chocked with illicit activities emanating from the desire by some business owners to make fast money.
Mr Kalumba pointed out that the city was now surrounded by sex dens as bars and guest houses were being illegally turned into havens for prostitution.
He warned that LCC would not hesitate to revoke trading licenses for businesses being illegally used for illicit activities.
Mr Kalumba also called on the police, together with the council to expedite raids on business entities across the city suspected to be havens of illicit activities.
“This sex den issue is not just in Emmasdale where we, together with the police carried out our last raid. There are all over the city and have become a big problem. LCC alone cannot manage, we need other stakeholders, the police to expedite the fight, otherwise its far from over,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Kalumba disclosed that LCC was contemplating on enforcing a law which would compel bar and night club owners to check the age of all their clients before entering their premises.
He observed that drinking places across the city were frequented by under ages when the law was clear that it was a punishable offence.
Mr Kalumba said that bar and night club owners would have to enforce that policy strictly or risk facing prosecution.
He said that the police should also look out for bar owners using children for illicit activities, which he said had become a trend round the city.
