GOVERNMENT has advised traditional leaders to utilise the ministry of chiefs and traditional affairs that was created with the all-purpose to bridge the gap between the government and chiefs.
Western Province minister Nathaniel Mubukwano said the ministry had an overall responsibility to formulate policy, coordinate and implement the programmes of traditional affairs.
Mr Mubukwano said government attaches great importance to traditional ceremonies that were a unifying factor and a source of development.
The minister was speaking when he officiated at this year’s Kazanga Ttraditional Ceremony of the Nkoya speaking people in Kaoma yesterday.
He said the government would continue to rely on the knowledge and wisdom from the council of their royal highnesses in providing guidance in running the public affairs.
“The government will continue to partner with traditional leadership to sustain local and national development, and it was for that reason the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs was created to bridge the gap,” he said.
And the minister has urged traditional leaders to address the challenges of early marriages that was faced by chiefdoms, sayings chiefs must be supported to stop the scourge.
Hundreds of people attended this year’s Kazanga ceremony of the Nkoya people in Kaoma, among, the government senior officials, chief Chiengele of the Mbunda people, and other traditional leaders.
