Dear Editor,
IT surprises me that people are saying Zambia is a free market economy but wants the government to interfere with the maize floor price.
Let us not forget that just few months ago the same people were condemning the government over the increased price of mealie meal and urged it to find means and ways of reducing the price of our staple food.
My question, is how we can have cheap mealie meal if the raw material, maize is expensive?
Simple economics tells us that supply of a commodity varies inversely to its demand.
The good part is this situation benefits the majority consumer but the evil side of it is that it impacts negatively on the farmer as the input were bought at a high price.
