CONSTRUCTION works on the Civic Centre clinic in Lusaka that have been on hold for four years due to lack of resources have resumed.
Lusaka Central Constituency Independence Ward 14 Councillor George Daka, who announced this, explained that the health facility was closed down four years ago by the council to pave way for expansion and renovations. It had become too small to cater for the community.
He said the council was unable to complete the works in good time due to lack of funds.
“The civic centre clinic was small to cater for people in the area, so extending and renovating it is a good move, They discontinued the works because l believe they ran out of resources,” he said.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, Mr. Daka said there was need to reopen the clinic and that he had therefore embarked on the project to finish the works.
He said the project had resumed soon after he received the ward development funds from the council amounting to K430 thousand.
“We are reinventing the clinic at civic centre it has been closed for the past four years,” he said.
The civic leader explained that the council had been working on the clinic but that he had now decided to engage private contractor.
He said almost 75percent of the works had been done and hoped the clinic would open to the community in November.
