PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu is the Patriotic Front candidate for 2021 and those members with presidential ambitions must wait until 2026, secretary general Davies Mwila has announced.
Speaking in Northern Province, Mr Mwila asked those who might start fomenting trouble in the party because of their ambitions to exercise patience.
He said PF members should start preparing for 2021.
“To those who think this is not democracy, we say it is. The United States of America, which is a model of Democracy allows a system, whether it’s the Democrats or Republicans, where the incumbent goes through unopposed,” he said.
The secretary general said members should now focus on delivering on the promises they made to the Zambian people, now that the elections were behind.
Mr Mwila said his party had a major task to ensure they understood what was done by the Government in relation to its party Manifesto, to show to the citizens that the party did not depart from the important promises they made to them.
He said the PF structures had a duty to track the implementation of the manifesto and ensure coordinated responses to correct the lies and distortions being peddled by some opposition parties.
Mr Mwila challenged the party structures to rise above the differences that engulfed the party before the elections.
“The Central Committee resolved that those who had stood as independents and their supporters can come back to the party but as ordinary members, and that was for the purposes of discipline. It does not matter whether one agrees with the official position of the party or not, we must go by that, as such entails loyalty to the party.
The secretary general said he was in Northern Province to assess the general condition of the Party structures in all the districts after the 2016 elections, and also to measure effectiveness and efficiency of the party programmes.
