LUANSHYA Municipal Council has procured a new set of traffic lights that will be installed at the council Post Office traffic lights, says mayor Nathan Chanda.
Mr Chanda has since apologized to motorists in the area who have been victims of conflict with the traffic police officers due to absence of street lights.
He said he understood the trauma, aguish and frustrations the motorists have faced at the hands of traffic officers, hence they should be patient to allow the council to install the traffic lights.
Mr Chanda explained that the local authority will also improve on the road signage which will improve safety and motoring in the town.
“The local authority has finally procured the new set of traffic lights and they will be installed in the next 30 days as we wait for the other consignment after the new roads are done,” said Mr Chanda.
And the mayor said the voluntary removal of street vendors from the streets has started to yield positive results.
“So far shop owners have adhered to the resolution of our previous meeting to have their trading places painted and we have good response in just 30 days from the initial 90 days period which we gave to shop owners in the central business district.
“This is what we stand for as residents of Luanshya to work together with all other elected leaders and change the face of our district,” he said.
