LIVINGSTONE Institute of Business and Engineering Studies (LIBES) has introduced new courses targeting the local community.
And the provincial administration in Southern Province has commended LIBES for answering calls by Government to create employment for youths.
LIBES principal Thomas Kalantiya said as an institution that depended on citizens of Livingstone and the nation to achieve its goals, the institution felt it had to give something permanent and almost free or at give-away rate to the community.
Mr. Kalantiya said this was the reason why the school introduced the short courses designed to cover all areas of hospitality and tourism industry.
“Suffice to say that one of the aims of these courses is to empower the learners to effectively participate in the development of Livingstone through entrepreneurial enterprise and direct entry into existing labour market.
“As a direct response these courses have been specifically provided as our response to the demands of society and the employer in the tourism industry. As LIBES we have a duty to give back to the people as part of our corporate social responsibility decree,’’ he said.
Launching the courses, Southern Province permanent secretary Sibanze Simuchoba expressed happiness that the curriculum contained a full-fledged component on entrepreneurship.
Mr. Simuchoba said that much as those to be trained wanted to be employed in the formal sector, it was the wish of Government that young people got into entrepreneurial management ventures.
“What I would urge these trainees is not to rush into job hunting only which usually end in disappointment and frustration but to seek advice on how they can form partnerships and cooperatives that Government would support and may fund,” he said.
Meanwhile, Livingstone Chamber of Commerce president Namakau Sianga has applauded LIBES for the introduction of the courses.
Ms Sianga said the initiative to introduce the desperately needed short courses in hospitality and fashion technology had come at the right time.
